April 22, 2024: Congratulations to Sara for publishing the protocol article in Bio-protocol https://bio-protocol.org/e4977. 

March, 2024: We welcome two new members, Lindsay and Zubair, on board. Lindsay is our new research assistant, and Dr. Zubair Laghari icomes from Pakistan and joins the lab as a postdoc.

Feb 14, 2024: Sang's CST-PrimPol-p21 paper is published in Nucleic Acids Research: https://doi.org/10.1093/nar/gkae078.  Congratulations!

Jan 31, 2024: Today is our official start date at RFUMS Chicago Medical School. We are excited! Dr. Chai is the new Director for the Center of Genetic Diseases to lead the Center. Look forward to the new chapter! 

Jan 29, 2024: All lab stuff was moved to RFUMS Chicago Medical School by the mover. We spent the entire last week packing the lab. The transition has been quite smooth.  I greatly appreciate lab members who have decided to move to the new place and also all the people helping us during the transition process.

Jan 22, 2024: Sang's manuscript is accepted by NAR! Great job, everyone! So glad that this is done before the lab move.  

 

Nov 30, 2023: Our paper is published by Nature Communications today! Great job, Rishi! Thank everyone and our collaborators who contributed to the study!

Sept, 2023: Welcome Eugene and Madeline rotating in our lab!

Sept 9-13, 2023: Dr. Chai and Ray attended the 54th Annual EMGS meeting in Chicago. Dr. Chai gave a talk on our mouse colon cancer study. 

Aug 1, 2023: Our newest member Dr. Manobendro Ray joined the lab from Japan as a postdoc. Welcome Ray!

July 25, 2023: Christine gave a wonderful presentation at the Undergraduate Summer Research Symposium at the Cancer Center. Well done!

June 8, 2023: Great news! We received funds from NIH to purchase the much-needed imager for our lab. It will help us a lot.

May 16, 2023: Welcome the Loyola undergrad intern Christine Kouria. She will spend 10 weeks with us. 

May 10, 2023: Our Science Advances paper is officially online. 

April, 2023: Duc and Eugene's paper on colon cancer is accepted by Science Advances and will be published on May 10th! Nice job!

Feb 5, 2023: Rishi and Dr. Chai attended the GRC Mammalian DNA Repair meeting. Dr. Chai was invited to give a talk on Duc and Eugene's work. Rishi presented his work in the poster session. 

Jan 2, 2023: Kevin joined our lab. Yeah! Welcome, Kevin!

Jan 1, 2023: Our new R01 is now funded. Yeah!

Dec 19, 2022: The Lab went bowling today. For Rishi, Alishba, Vikas, this is their first time bowling. A lot of fun!

Dec 21, 2021: The Chai lab went to "Escape room" and successfully escaped at the last second. What a fun activity!

This Fall semester our lab hosted three excellent rotation students, Alex, Austin, Kaelie. Although they chose other labs to do their thesis, they had a great time in our lab and we enjoyed having them. Thank you for your work, and best wishes to your graduate career!

Jan 28 2021: The new postdoc Ravi will start on Feb 1. He is currently a postdoc at Dr. Wu's lab in Dept of Microbiology and Immunology at Loyola (our neighbor building) and has been there for almost two years. Welcome! Very much look forward to working with Ravi.

Sept 14, 2020: Rishi joined the lab after overcoming the COVID-caused visa difficulties. Yeah! Look forward to working with Rishi and his contribution to our research.

Sept 11, 2020: Duc, Eugene, Sang's review article was published in Frontiers Cell and Developmental Biology. Congrats!

Sept 1, 2020: After months of delay caused by pandemic, Rishi and his wife finally arrived US. Welcome!

Aug 5, 2020: Xinxing left us and will start a new chapter in China. Best wishes to his job search, paper publication, and starting a new family! 

May 17, 2020: It has been 9 weeks since the lab shutdown on March 20 due to COVID-19. Hope everyone stays safe and healthy, and also productive. We will have a new postdoc Ekaterina joining from our neighbor Northwestern University. She will start in June. 

May 11, 2020: Thanh and Duc have become new parents. Welcome our newest adorable family member: Mia! 

March 2020: Sang joined the lab from University of Texas as a postdoc. Sara joined us from another lab in Loyola as research specialist. Welcome Sang and Sara!

Dec 2019: Both Duc and Xinxing won prizes at the departmental holiday party. Duc won the grand prize and Xinxing won the gift card. So nice!

Nov 2019: Lab move went smoothly. All freezers are now working. The new microscope is mostly working. Many thanks to Xinxing, Duc and Thanh's tremendous help in the lab move!

Nov 2019: After serving Washington State University for 11 years as a tenured faculty, Dr. Chai has taken a new position at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, Department of Cancer Biology in the Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center. The Chai lab has moved to the Chicago land. A new chapter has begun. We will miss our former lab members who decided to stay at WSU.

Dec 2017: Dr. Chai was awarded a NIH R03 to continue the telomere insertion project. Great!

Nov 7 2017: Yuan delivered a baby girl. Congratulations!

July 2017: Welcome Faya! Dr. Faya Zhang recently graduated from College of Pharmacy in WSU. We are so happy to have him in our lab. He has two wonderful kids and a sweet wife.

May 2017: Dr. Chai attended the CSHL Telomere/Telomerase meeting. Guess what, the first person she saw was Chenhui! Chenhui is currently working in Shanghai and doing great!

 

June 2016: Dr. Chai is appointed by the Governor of the State of Washington to the board of Cancer Research Endowment Athority, serving the governor's office. June 2016: Welcome back, Jacob! Jacob decided to do a second summer research in our lab.

May 2016: Bryce took a job in a biotech company. We will miss him.

March2016: Dr. Yuan Wang and Dr. Xinxing Lyu joined our lab as postdocs. They are both from China. Welcome to Spokane.

Jan 2016: Bryce joined our lab as research intern. Bryce is currently pursuing a BS degree in Biology at EWU. He is graduating in June 2016.

 

September 2015: Dr. Chai was awarded a NIH R56 grant to study the role of CST in telomere loss. We are recruiting more people. This is exciting!

September 2015: Our review "DNA excision repair at telomeres" is accepted by DNA Repair and published online.

June 2015: We will have two students doing rotations in our lab this summer. Jacob is a STAR student from SMB. Emiliano is the first-year graduate student from SMB.

June 2015: Vivian's paper was accepted by Oncology Letters. We are waiting for it to be published.

April 2015: Pingping's abstract was selected for a talk at the CSHL Telomere/Telomerase meeting. Good job, Pingping!

 

Nov 2014: Maria left lab and joined her husband at Boise, Idaho.

Sept 2014: Welcome, Megan! We are glad you joined our lab.

Sept 2014: RO1 funding started. Yeah!

June 2014: Dr. Chai's R01 was scored 4 percentile. Yeah! The lab's funding is secure for another 5 years.

May 2014: The Chai Lab has moved from HSB to the new beautiful PBS building on the week of May 19, 2014. We have a beautiful view looking over Mount Spokane and Gonzaga. We are now closer to colleagues who do similar work on cancer research. Thanks everyone for making a smooth move. Special thanks to Olga.

 

December 2013: Chenhui left the lab and headed back home, China. He will find a good position there. Good luck with his career.

November 2013: Maria's article about how she became a scientisit is going to be published on Science Career online. Well done, Maria. Congratulations!

September 2013: VFW donated funds to support our research on telomere biology in cancer. Thank you, VFW!

July 2013: Ideas for the design of our lab sign have been collected. Weihang is currently working on finalizing the design. Thanks Pingping, Maria, Vivian for the great ideas.

June 2013: Welcome back, Olga!

Feb 2013: We have another member joining our lab! Dr. Vivian (Qing) Zhou comes from Chengdu China. She got her PhD degree from Peking Union Medical College of Tsinghua University. Welcome!

 

Dec 2012: Farewell to Xueyu. Xueyu has finished a productive postdoc career here. She will be going back to China to reunite with her beloved daughter. Good luck with her career.

Sept 2012: Welcome to our new members: Dr. Maria Fadri-Moskwik and Dr. Pingping Jia. Pingping is from Inner Mongolia, China. She got her PhD from Institute of Medicinal Biotechnology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences & Peking Union Medical College (now part of Tsinghua University) from Beijing, China. Maria is from Houston, Texas. She obtained the PhD degree from the Baylor College of Medicine.April 2 2018: Welcome Eugene joining our lab! Eugene will bring his broad experience to our research.
